라고 할 때 "I apologize for the inconvenience."

http://www.someecards.com/usercards/viewcard/MjAxMi02NjYxZjIwNmE1YzhkMTMy

대답:

"I apologize"의 간단한 표현은 "I"m sorry"이고, "for the inconvenience"의 쉬운 문장은 "for any trouble"입니다.
따라서 두개를 합치면 "I'm sorry for any trouble"이 되죠.

좀 더 길게 표현하면 "I'm sorry for any trouble you've had." 또는 "I'm sorry about any trouble you've had."

만약 정말로 당신이 어떤 큰 문제나 불편함을 제공했다면, "I'm sorry for causing you any trouble."이나 "I'm sorry about causing you so much trouble." 또는 "I'm sorry that you had so much trouble."

그렇게 미안한 경우가 아니라면  "I'm sorry if you had any trouble."라고 하면 되고, 이것보다 좀더 덜 미안하다면 "I'm sorry if you had any inconvenience." 더 덜 미안한 표현은 "If you had any inconvenience, may I apologize."

- I'm sorry for any trouble.
- I'm sorry for any trouble you've had.
- I'm sorry about any trouble you've had.

- I'm sorry for causing you any trouble.
- I'm sorry about causing you so much trouble.
- I'm sorry that you had so much trouble.

- I'm sorry if you had any trouble.
- I'm sorry if you had any inconvenience.
- If you had any inconvenience, may I apologize.

  • Cul-de-sac
  • Dead End/No Outlet
  • Roundabout

http://www.houstontomorrow.org/livability/story/the-cul-de-sac/

2. DEAD END or NO OUTLET

http://www.trafficsign.us/w14.html

Abbreviations of the Street Names in the USA

Abbreviations of the Street Names in the USA

1. 다음은 미국에서 흔히들 사용되는 Abbreviation(a short form)입니다.

St.  Dr.  Rd.  Blvd.  Pl.  Ct.  Cir.  Hwy.  Ave.  Ln. Pkwy.

...

http://www.phillymag.com/news/2015/02/22/big-list-funny-philadelphia-street-names/

St. = Street (스트리트)
Dr. = Drive (드라이브)
Ave. = Avenue (애비뉴)
Rd. = Road (로드)
Blvd. = Boulevard (불러바드)
Pl. = Place (플레이스)
Ct. = Court (코트)
Cir. = Circle (써클)
Hwy. = Highway (하이웨이)
Ln. = Lane (레인)
Pkwy. = Parkway (파크웨이)

http://www.vulcaninc.com/?p=vulcan_signs_street_name

Boulevard(Blvd):
Lane(Ln.):
Place(Pl.): Court와 비슷합니다.
Highway(Hwy.): Highway
Circle(Cir.):
Parkway(Pkwy.)

1. Get well, soon!
2. I hope you feel better, soon!
3. I'm sorry you are sick, I hope that you feel better quickly.

가장 일반적으로 많이 쓰이는 말은 Get well, soon!

-----------------------

친구나 가족이 아플 때 'get well soon 메시지(get well soon messages)'를 'get well 카드(get well card)'에 써서 주면 센스 만점이겠죠?

"I hope you feel better!!!"

OCO-2 (Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2)

Hi, this is Bill Putman. I'm a climate scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. What you’re looking at is a supercomputer model of carbon dioxide levels in the Earth’s atmosphere. The visualization compresses one year of data into a few minutes. Carbon dioxide is the most important greenhouse gas affected by human activity. About half of the carbon dioxide emitted from fossil fuel combustion remains in the atmosphere, while the other half is absorbed by natural land and ocean reservoirs. In the Northern Hemisphere, we see the highest concentrations are focused around major emission sources over North America, Europe and Asia. Notice how the gas doesn’t stay in one place. The dispersion of carbon dioxide is controlled by the large-scale weather patterns within the global circulation. During spring and summer in the Northern Hemisphere, plants absorb a substantial amount of carbon dioxide through photosynthesis, thus removing some of the gas from the atmosphere. We see this change in the model as the red and purple colors start to fade. Meanwhile, in the Southern Hemisphere, we see the release of another pollutant—carbon monoxide. This is a gas that’s both harmful to the environment and to humans. During the summer months, plumes of carbon monoxide stream from fires in Africa, South America and Australia, contributing to high concentrations in the atmosphere. Notice how these emissions are also transported by winds to other parts of the world. As summer transitions to fall, and plant photosynthesis decreases, carbon dioxide begins to accumulate in the atmosphere. Although this change is expected, we’re seeing higher concentrations of carbon dioxide accumulate in the atmosphere each year. This is contributing to the long-term trend of rising global temperatures. The Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2, or OCO-2, will be the first NASA satellite mission to provide a global view of carbon dioxide. OCO-2 observations and atmospheric models like GEOS-5 will work closely together to better understand both human emissions and natural fluxes of carbon dioxide. This will help guide climate models toward more reliable predictions of future conditions across the globe.

Comparison of Language Learning Difficulty (Foreign Service Institute)

Use of respectively: Respectively

source: http://www.springer.com/authors/journal+authors/journal+authors+academy?SGWID=0-1726414-12-837820-0

‘Respectively’ is an adverb that is often misused by non-native English speakers. Use 'respectively' only if your sentence would be unclear without it.

For example:

Image,Respectively,576px
If we wanted to describe this data in the text of a manuscript, it would be written as:
Oxygen, nitrogen and hydrogen detector flows were set at 85, 7, and 4 mL/min, respectively.
This makes it clear that the first gas mentioned goes with the first number, the second gas goes with the second number, etc.

More examples:

BAD: The two values were 143.2 and 21.6, respectively.
GOOD: The two values were 143.2 and 21.6.
BAD: The two tubes were labeled B and S, respectively.
GOOD: The tubes containing blood and saline were labeled B and S,
respectively.

a) Sign
b) Signature
c) Autograph
d) Endorsement

(그림source: http://img.answcdn.com/view:feature/getty/banking/9c7f73d4/76688340.jpg)

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
c) Autograph

1. Sign

2. Signature

3. Autograph

4. Endorsement

뒤에 쓰는 것을 뜻합니다. en(put on) + dos(back)

Please give me your autograph!
May I have your autograph?

seal? stamp? hand stamp?

인감도장? a registered seal.

embarrassed : ashamed

embarrassed.ashamed와 구분할 필요가 있어요.

I'm (so) embarrassed.
I get embarrassed.

Your face is turning red. Are you embarrassed?

I am so embarrassed to speak in front of many people.

I was so embarrassed when he suddenly hugged me.

It's so embarrassing.

My sister is embarrassing.

I am ashamed what I've done.

I am ashamed of you.

What a shame!

To my shame, I forgot his birthday.

I'm sorry for what I've done. I'm ashamed of myself.

Shame on you!

You've done a shameful deed.

That's the way it is 원래 그런 거에요

CELINE DION

"That's The Way It Is"

I can read your mind and I know your story

I see what you're going through
It's an uphill climb, and I'm feeling sorry
But I know it will come to you

Don't surrender 'cause you can win
In this thing called love

When you want it the most there's no easy way out
When you're ready to go and your heart's left in doubt
Don't give up on your faith
Love comes to those who believe it
And that's the way it is

When you question me for a simple answer
I don't know what to say, no
But it's plain to see, if you stick together

You're gonna find a way, yeah

So don't surrender 'cause you can win
In this thing called love

When you want it the most there's no easy way out

And that's the way it is

When life is empty with no tomorrow
And loneliness starts to call
Baby, don't worry, forget your sorrow
'Cause love's gonna conquer it all, all

When you want it the most there's no easy way out
When you're ready to go and your heart's left in doubt

When two vowels go walking,
the first one does the talking.

paid,
road,
boat,
coat,
soap,
cheat,
treat...

Exceptions:
soup
stein
house

Nouns/Adjectives

  • use
  • close
  • excuse
  • abuse

Verbs
  • use
  • close
  • excuse
  • abuse

I was close to the closed door.

"dine in only" 가 무슨 뜻인가요?

vegan(베젼, 비건) 과 vegetarian(베지테어리언, 채식주의자)의 차이

(source: http://www.suwon.com/news/articleView.html?idxno=78809)
